01 / Systems

Systems & compatibility

Start here if you are deciding between a cabinet, screen or complete hidden cinema system.

What does Julycode make?

Julycode creates hidden living-room cinema systems that integrate motorized furniture, ultra-short-throw projectors and ALR screens.

When the system is not in use, the equipment remains visually discreet. When activated, the projector platform and screen move into position to create a large-screen cinema experience.

What is a Julycode all-in-one laser cinema?

A complete configuration can include:

  • Smart motorized laser TV cabinet
  • Motorized UST ALR floor-rising screen
  • Optional ultra-short-throw projector

Depending on the product, you may purchase Cabinet Only, Screen Only, Cabinet + Screen, or Cabinet + Screen + Projector.

Always check the exact contents shown on the product page.

How is this different from a traditional home theater?

Julycode is designed for spaces where you want a large-screen viewing experience without permanently displaying the equipment.

The projector can be integrated into the furniture and the floor-rising screen can retract after use, reducing the need for a ceiling-mounted projector or permanent oversized screen.

Can a Julycode system replace a regular TV?

For many living rooms, yes. A properly matched UST projector and ALR screen can provide a 100-inch, 120-inch or larger image without a permanently mounted television.

The best configuration depends on room lighting, screen size and viewing habits.

Do I need a dedicated home-theater room?

No. Julycode systems are designed for normal living rooms, family rooms, offices, basements and other multi-purpose spaces.

Can I watch during the day?

Yes, when the projector and screen are properly matched.

A UST-specific ALR screen helps maintain contrast under normal ambient lighting. Strong direct sunlight on the screen can still reduce picture quality.

Why buy a matched system instead of separate components?

A matched configuration reduces common compatibility problems, including incorrect throw distance, cabinet depth, projector platform travel and screen type.

If you already own compatible equipment, you do not necessarily need to replace it.

Which configuration should I choose?
  • Already own a confirmed projector and screen → Cabinet Only
  • Already own a confirmed projector → Cabinet + ALR Screen
  • Starting from zero → Complete System

We recommend confirming compatibility before ordering.

What if my projector is not listed on the website?

Send us the exact projector brand and model before ordering.

We can review projector dimensions, lens position, throw ratio, ventilation clearance and required platform travel before confirming whether a cabinet is suitable.

02 / Cabinets

Smart UST cabinets

The furniture, projector position, ventilation and cable management must work together.

What does the smart cabinet actually do?

It is more than a conventional TV stand.

Depending on the model, the cabinet can conceal the projector, manage cables, provide ventilation and use a motorized drawer or platform to move the projector into its preset projection position.

What is the difference between enclosed, drawer and glass-door designs?

Fully enclosed designs prioritize concealment and dust protection.

Compact drawer systems can reduce the furniture footprint and make projector access easier.

Glass-door models provide a different visual treatment and may allow infrared remote signals to pass through, depending on the configuration.

Can I use a regular TV cabinet with a UST projector?

Sometimes, but conventional TV cabinets are usually not designed around UST projector height, depth, ventilation and throw-distance requirements.

Ultra-short-throw projectors are sensitive to very small changes in position relative to the screen.

Which projectors fit Julycode cabinets?

Many UST projector models from brands such as Hisense, AWOL Vision, Samsung, Formovie, Epson, XGIMI and others may be compatible.

Compatibility must be checked by exact model, not by brand name alone.

How do I choose the correct cabinet size?

We recommend confirming:

  • Screen size
  • Projector dimensions
  • Projector throw requirements
  • Available wall width
  • Required furniture depth

Cabinet size should not be selected based only on screen diagonal.

Does the cabinet work with a floor-rising screen?

Yes, when the selected cabinet and screen are designed as a compatible configuration.

Selected systems can coordinate the projector platform and screen through a linkage or control system.

Does the cabinet arrive fully assembled?

It depends on the model.

Some products arrive largely assembled, while larger cabinets may arrive in multiple cartons and require positioning or light assembly.

Check the exact product page before ordering.

Are selected cabinet doors sound-transparent?

Selected models may use perforated or sound-transmitting cabinet structures.

Check the specifications of the exact cabinet before planning speaker placement.

How noisy is the motorized mechanism?

The mechanism is designed for controlled, relatively quiet movement.

If the system becomes unusually loud, jerky or stops unexpectedly, stop repeated operation and send our support team a short video.

Can I customize the cabinet size, color or finish?

Selected models support customization.

Send us your wall dimensions, preferred finish, projector model and screen size.

Custom pricing, production requirements and lead time must be confirmed before production.

03 / Projectors

UST projectors

Projector geometry determines cabinet travel, screen size and final image position.

What type of projector do I need?

Julycode projector cabinets are primarily designed for ultra-short-throw projectors, often referred to as laser TVs.

Standard long-throw or ceiling-mounted projectors use different projection geometry and normally require a different installation.

What is the difference between UST, short-throw and long-throw?

UST projectors sit very close to the screen and are the type normally used with Julycode motorized projector cabinets.

Short-throw projectors still require more distance from the wall. Long-throw projectors are normally positioned much farther away or mounted to a ceiling.

Does Julycode supply projectors?

Yes. Selected complete systems can include a projector, or you may use a projector you already own after compatibility has been confirmed.

Available projector models can change over time.

Which projector brands can be used?

Common UST options include Hisense, AWOL Vision, Samsung, Formovie, Epson, XGIMI and other compatible models.

We still need the exact model to verify projector dimensions, lens position, throw ratio and ventilation clearance.

Can I use the UST projector I already own?

Yes, if the model is compatible with the selected cabinet and screen.

Send the exact model before ordering so we can check body dimensions, throw requirements, ventilation and cable routing.

Do I still need an ALR screen if my projector is bright?

For a typical living room, a UST-specific ALR screen is recommended.

Higher projector brightness helps, but it does not replace the optical benefit of a screen designed for UST projection under ambient light.

How bright should my projector be?

The required brightness depends on room lighting, screen size and viewing conditions.

As a general reference, darker rooms can use lower brightness, while brighter living rooms and larger screens benefit from higher output.

Lumens alone do not determine picture quality. Contrast, laser type and screen selection also matter.

Where does the projector sit?

In compatible systems, the projector sits on the motorized platform inside the cabinet with the lens facing the screen.

The platform moves the projector into the required throw position when the system is activated.

How close does a UST projector sit to the screen?

Usually tens of centimeters rather than several meters.

The exact distance depends on the projector's throw ratio and selected screen size.

Will the projector overheat inside the cabinet?

Compatible cabinets are designed with airflow and equipment access in mind.

Projector intake and exhaust openings must remain unobstructed. Do not add objects that block the ventilation path.

Does the cabinet automatically turn the projector on and off?

Control methods depend on the exact system.

Selected configurations may use one-touch linkage, HDMI-CEC, 12V trigger, smart control or separate remotes.

Confirm the control method for the exact configuration you are purchasing.

Can I connect a soundbar, AVR or HDMI source?

Yes, subject to the projector's available connections and audio features.

HDMI sources may connect directly to the projector or through a compatible AVR.

ARC or eARC support depends on the projector model.

What about gaming and input lag?

Gaming performance depends primarily on the projector.

If available, use the projector's Game Mode and check the manufacturer's input-lag specification.

Can I use Netflix, Disney+ or other streaming apps?

That depends on the projector's operating system and supported applications.

If the projector does not include the apps you need, you can use a compatible external HDMI streaming device.

Does the screen add 4K, HDR or Dolby Vision?

No. 4K, HDR and Dolby Vision are projector and source-device features.

The role of the screen is to help preserve the image the projector produces.

Can I use a portable projector in the cabinet?

Usually not.

Portable projectors commonly use different throw geometry, lens height and brightness requirements.

Who provides the projector warranty?

Projectors follow the applicable warranty terms of the projector brand.

Julycode cabinet and screen products follow the applicable Julycode warranty terms.

The image is too big, too small or does not fill the screen. What should I do?

First check the physical projector position and throw distance.

Avoid relying on aggressive digital keystone correction before the projector and cabinet are mechanically aligned.

Level the cabinet, confirm platform depth, then make minor image corrections if required.

What about projector firmware updates?

Follow the projector manufacturer's official firmware update instructions.

We recommend avoiding unofficial firmware.

04 / Screens

ALR screens & picture quality

The projector and screen work as one optical system. Screen selection directly affects the final image.

Do UST projectors need a special screen?

For the best living-room performance, yes.

Use a screen specifically designed for UST projection. Generic white screens and long-throw ALR materials use different optical structures.

What is ALR and why does it matter?

ALR means Ambient Light Rejecting.

A UST-specific ALR surface is designed to direct projector light toward the viewer while reducing a significant amount of unwanted ambient light from the room.

What is the difference between ALR, CLR and matte white?

ALR materials are designed to reduce ambient-light washout.

CLR is commonly used to describe materials focused particularly on rejecting ceiling light.

Matte-white screens distribute light broadly and generally perform best in darker, controlled environments.

Can I project directly onto a painted wall?

Yes, but picture contrast and uniformity can decrease, especially when windows or room lights are present.

For a complete living-room system, we recommend a matched UST ALR screen.

Does a floor-rising screen require wall or ceiling installation?

No. A floor-rising screen operates upward from its own housing or integrated cabinet position.

Installation requirements vary by model.

Can I hang a floor-rising screen upside down from the ceiling?

No.

A floor-rising screen is designed to operate from its intended upright position.

Installing it upside down may damage the mechanism or screen surface.

What screen size should I choose?

Common Julycode living-room configurations include 100-inch and 120-inch systems, with larger options available for suitable rooms.

Final size should consider wall width, viewing distance, projector capability and cabinet dimensions.

Why does my image look washed out?

Common causes include:

  • Direct sunlight on the screen
  • Incorrect screen material
  • Insufficient projector brightness
  • Incorrect projector position
  • Cabinet or screen not level
Does ALR eliminate all reflections?

No.

ALR can significantly improve contrast in a lit room, but it cannot eliminate every reflection, particularly strong direct sunlight or windows facing the screen.

Do Julycode screens support 3D?

If the projector and source support compatible 3D output, the screen can display the projected image.

The projector and glasses determine the actual 3D system compatibility.

Are Julycode screens acoustically transparent?

Selected screen models use acoustically transparent or perforated materials.

Check the specification of the exact screen before planning speakers behind the viewing surface.

What is laser speckle?

Some RGB laser projectors may produce a fine shimmering texture on certain screen materials.

Screen choice can influence the effect, although it may not eliminate it completely.

Tell us your projector model before ordering if laser speckle is a concern.

05 / Installation

Installation & setup

Large furniture and projection equipment require more preparation than a conventional television.

Is a professional installer required?

Not always.

Many customers install the system using the supplied instructions, but large cabinets generally require at least two people for safe handling.

Hire a qualified local professional if you are not comfortable with leveling, electrical connections or system alignment.

How long does setup take?

Installation time varies by system and room.

A typical setup includes unpacking, cabinet and screen positioning, leveling, power and control connections, projector alignment and image fine-tuning.

Do I need to drill into the wall?

Many floor-rising configurations do not require a permanently wall-mounted projection screen.

Installation requirements vary by product. Electrical work should be completed by a qualified professional where local regulations require it.

What should I prepare before delivery?
  • Confirm door, hallway, stair and elevator dimensions
  • Confirm enough wall and furniture space
  • Prepare a suitable power source
  • Arrange assistance for large-item handling
  • Keep your projector model and screen size available
  • Do not discard packaging before inspecting the shipment
Can the screen, cabinet and projector operate together automatically?

Selected smart systems support coordinated operation.

The exact method can vary between remote control, dry contact, trigger connection or another control solution.

Confirm the control method for your specific configuration.

The picture is trapezoidal or soft. What should I check first?

Start with physical alignment.

Level the cabinet, confirm the projector's correct throw position and make sure the screen is level.

Use digital geometry correction only after the physical setup is correct.

The motor stopped during movement. What should I do?

Stop repeatedly operating the mechanism.

Disconnect power briefly, check the power supply and remote or control connection, then try again.

If the issue remains, send Julycode support a short video.

Do not force the screen or motorized mechanism by hand.
